Ogbono Soup Preparation

How To Prepare Ogbono Soup



Ogbono soup popularly known as draw soup is another Nigerian cuisine that is not just rich in nutrition but have also been proven to be one of the most popularly cooked soup in Nigeria because of its simple nature in preparing it and the fact that it easily allows fufu and garri to easily slide down the throat. Lol I'm sure you can relate to that.


So many people have different method of preparing it, some like to add a little bit of okra in it while some like myself prefer just the Ogbono itself but I'm going to show you how to go about preparing the Ogbono.









INGREDIENTS REQUIRED,.

1.  Meat
2.  Fish: stockfish, dried fish, shaki, fresh fish or smoked fish.

3.  Ogbono seed
4.  Palm oil (red oil)
5. Vegetables ( pumpkin or spinach or bitter leaf )
6.  Crayfish and pepper



PREPARATORY PROCESS BEFORE YOU COMMENCE COOKING.

1. Grind the Ogbono seed with  a dry grinder

2. Cook your meat and stock fish and Shaki (cow tail or head) till its readily soft.

3. Slice the pumpkin or spinach leaf in tiny piece

4.  Grind the crayfish and pepper.

5.  Boil hot water and readily keep it.

   COOKING DIRECTION :
Step 1 :
Once the meat, stockfish and shaki are ready and soft, add the boiled hot water
Into the meat while still on fire.

Step 2:
Add 2 cooking spoon full of red oil and alow to boil for 5 minutes.

Step 3 :
Add the quantity of the grinded Ogbono seed that you need and cover the pot


Step 4 :
  When the Ogbono starts boiling and fuming up, you stir it continuously till  the seeds completely desolves and the ogbono starts drawing to your standard

Step 5:
After the Ogbono has completely mixed with the meat stock and it turns slightly starts burning, reduce the heat of the fire to avoid burning and then add crayfish and Pepper together and stir.

Step 6:
Add small quantity of the boiled hot water into the Ogbono and alow to cook till  you start perceiving the aroma

8.  Add your vegetables and a pinch of salt and 2 cubes of maggi and cover for 2
      Minutes and stir.

9.  Food is ready
.

SERVE WITH :

* Garri
* Semolina
* Akpu
* Alibo
*Tuwo shinkafa or
* pounded yam.
